2 Samuel 5 - Everything is coming up David!

This is what David has been waiting for. It's what we have been waiting for as we have followed David's life from the young shepherd boy who was overlooked by all except God.

David is anointed King over Israel - all of it.

Everything seems to fall into place. Jerusalem is occupied by the Jebusites? Not to worry, in only two verses that is covered. They brag that David can't get in, and then David gets in. Simple.

Then the King of Tyre sends over resources and tradespeople to build a palace for David. Not bad.

Then those pesky Philistines pop up again. Twice, and both times David defeats them. They do the same thing twice, 'cause you know, if at first you don't succeed, do the same thing that didn't work. Although, I guess David does the same thing twice; He asks for God's advice on how to deal with the Philistines. The advice is different both times, but both times it leads to victory for David.

None of David's success is attributed to his abilities. It's all because the Lord God Almighty was with him. And do you know something? God is with you too. This may sound like a broken record at this point, but David was constantly seeking after God's heart. That's what he was known for. He wasn't perfect, as we will see in a few chapters. And we need to be careful not to assume that when we are walking with God that everything will go our way - David was hunted for years, pretty sure that wasn't a part of his five-year plan. But as a role model for how to respond when it all goes belly up, David is a pretty good one to have.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, you are amazing! Thank you that you never leave us. Help us to spend quality time with you, even when it feels hard to do.

Amen.
